Lone Star Classic was inspired by that exact feeling the quiet pride of a skyline rising behind a symbol of American design. The vintage Thunderbird, polished and bold, rests confidently beneath drifting clouds, as if it owns both the road and the horizon. Behind it, the modern glass towers shimmer a reminder that while cities evolve, icons endure.

But this piece is more than a city and a car.

It is memory.

I remember being small enough that my feet didn’t touch the floor of the passenger seat. My grandfather’s hands rested steady on the wheel of his old red coupe — not the same model as this one, but close enough that when the sunlight hit it just right, it felt like fire on metal.

He used to say, “Engines have heartbeats if you listen closely.”

On Sunday afternoons, we would park on the edge of town and watch the skyline in the distance. He’d talk about how the city kept growing, changing, reaching higher and how a person should do the same. But he never traded that car in.

“Some things,” he’d tell me, “are meant to last.”

Years later, when I painted Lone Star Classic, I wasn’t just painting chrome and architecture. I was painting that stillness. That pride. That unspoken lesson about legacy.

The bold red represents courage the courage to hold onto who you are, even as the world builds glass towers around you.
The endless blue sky represents possibility because no matter how far you’ve driven, there’s always more road ahead.
